Lac Barrière Update

Like many of you, we have been following developments regarding Copper One’s mining claims at Lac Barrière. The claims were suspended, meaning that the company will not have to renew them and will maintain its rights as the situation is resolved. MERN lifted the suspension last summer, despite ongoing tension with the community, as is the case with forestry operations. The government did not have time to come to an agreement with the community on a variety of subjects before lifting the suspension. The mining claims have thus not disappeared, but have been suspended.

Quebec remains a society based on the rule of law. Section 82 of the Mining Act sets out measures regarding government expropriation of mining claims. We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves. Land access is a important issue for QMEA.

The QMEA team is pleased to announce a new service for members. Starting now, you can post your job offers on our website and social media pages for only $150 per three-month period.

At the beginning of the year QMEA began updating the members directory on its website. We invite you to enter any new contact information in the directory.
